Why Do We Have Wisdom Teeth?
Thought on why we have wisdom teeth. Our ancestors had a different diet than us mostly consuming coarse food such as nuts, raw meat, leaves and roots which required extensive mastication force. They had larger jaws and three pairs of molar teeth.
Since we now boil, steam, bake, chop and cook our food, the extra set of molars is unnecessary. Because of the evolution of the human race and our diet change, our jaws have become smaller and thinner with less room for these molars. Or maybe our brain needed room to grow thus our jaw had to be smaller to accommodate it!
